What started as the town of Cove (thought to be just a crossroads when it first appeared in post office records in 1849), grew up after the Civil War when the railroads came rolling in.
The Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N) sent Peter Boyle to build a new train station, which he named Helena Station, immortalizing his sweetheart, Helen Lee.
The railroad brought new life and prosperity, and soon the area (including Hillsboro) incorporated into the city of Helena.
The flourishing steel and coal town cooled off during the Great Depression, but as Birmingham has continued to prosper, so now is Helena. And Hillsboro!
